Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
The Cipher is a small publication operated from Melbourne, Australia. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and how we handle it. We aim to comply with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect
Email addresses. When you subscribe to The Cipher, we collect your email address. That's it. We don't ask for your name, location, or anything else.
Analytics. We use Vercel Analytics to measure aggregate page views and performance. Vercel Analytics is designed to be privacy-respecting — it does not use cookies, does not track you across websites, and does not build user profiles. More detail at vercel.com/docs/analytics/privacy-policy.
Why we collect it
Your email is used for one thing: delivering The Cipher to your inbox. We don't use it for anything else. We don't sell it, rent it, share it with data brokers, or use it for targeted advertising.
Where it lives
Subscriber emails are stored with Beehiiv, our email delivery provider. Beehiiv is based in the United States. By subscribing, you consent to your email being stored and processed there. Beehiiv's privacy policy is at beehiiv.com/privacy.
How to unsubscribe or delete your data
Every email from The Cipher has a one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom. Clicking it removes you from the list. You can also email hello@thecipher.au and ask us to delete your email address — we'll do it within seven days.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the information we collect from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access. No internet-based service can guarantee absolute security, but we use industry-standard infrastructure (Vercel, Supabase, Beehiiv) and access controls.
Children
The Cipher is intended for adult readers. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a minor has subscribed, please email us and we'll remove the record.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we'll update the "last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be announced in a brief itself.
